Product Overview
Zweymüller stem philosophy
-A fourth generation design of the Zweymuller
rectangular dual taper stem, the Profemur® Z hip
stem is designed on the premise that there are
advantages to placing a square peg in a round hole.
With an optional proximal plasma spray designed for
press fit, the square corners of the rectangular cross
section wedge into cortical bone for rotational rigidity.
By placing this rectangular cross section into a
cylindrical femoral canal, cancellous bone is conserved
to allow increased vascularization along the entire
length of the stem.
Design features
Zweymüller philosophy:
- The "fit without fill" technique preserves endosteal
blood supply, improves initial stability, and fits a
variety of bone shapes2
Rotational stability:
- Rectangular cross-section and the wedge shaped
geometry allow for four-point fixation and contact
along the four corners within the femoral canal1
Intramedullary fixation:
- Dual taper geometry provide optimal load transfer
and primary fixation, while an optional Plasma Spray
coating provides an additional 1mm of press-fit
Trochanteric wing:
- Extended lateral shoulder contributes to proximal fill
in addition to rotational stability
Rounded distal tip
Lessens the risk of fracture during implantation and
minimizes intramedullary point contact in the distal
femur
